Haley and Hanna Cavinder, known popularly like the "Cavinder twins," have shared a statement expressing they won't be returning to the University of Miami for their potential last season of eligibility, rather choosing to chase the next chapter of their life, which might not include basketball.
The Cavinder twins were only one season with the Miami Hurricanes basketball team after transferring from Fresno State, with the 22 year old players helping the program reach the Elite Eight round this past March Madness.
The Cavinder Twins thanked their coaches and teammates
They started the statement by thanking their teammates and coaches for bringing them in as family and allowing them to take part in a historic season.
"With that being said, Hanna and I have decided to not take our fifth year and start a new chapter in our lives. The U will always be home and we are forever proud to be Hurricanes."
Hanna and Haley could've opted to play for another season, given that the NCAA allowed athletes who had a year of eligibility during the COVID-19 pandemic, to extend their stay as college athletes to make it up during an extra year.
The Cavinder twins are amongst the highest earning college athletes through name, image and likeness deals, mainly due to their over 4.5 million followers on social media.
Although they won't be playing basketball together, Hanna says they'll still be building their brand together. “I think honestly it provides a different unique storyline. You can have somebody in the NIL space, and an athlete that's not in the NIL space, but we obviously are always going to work together.
This past August, Haley Cavinder revealed on the twins' podcast, “Twin Talk,” that her sister Hanna had pushed her to retire. “We made it to the Elite Eight. That was Hanna and I's goal,” Haley said. “Hanna didn't want to play, so she made me quit basketball.”
Haley and Hanna Cavinder are college basketball stars
The girls grew up in Gilbert, Arizona, and have three other sisters, according to GQ. According to the magazine, Haley and Hanna always had a competitive edge and began playing basketball from a young age.
They are at $1.7 million annually. Their overall NIL ranks are 32nd and 33rd in the nation, and they're first and second in the women's rankings. On3 has Haley's 10-week high valued at $851,000 at her 10-week low valued at $813,000. Hanna is valued highest at $851,000 and lowest at $818,000.
The Cavinders left college with a combined NIL valuation of $1.7 million, ranking No. 32 and No. 33 on the On3 100. They are thought to have a net worth of $4.4 million after confirming a partnership with Jake Paul's Betr company.
Former Miami guard Haley Cavinder announced her commitment to join the TCU women's basketball team exactly one month after entering the transfer portal. Cavinder will sit out the 2023-24 season and join TCU for the 2024-25 campaign.
The sisters said they were going to focus on WWE and leave basketball, but Haley changed her mind and is ready for "the last rodeo." "There was nothing filling the love for the game, and I just truly was like, I know I'm going to regret it down the road if I don't go back," she said in a recent interview with Forbes.
The NBA has witnessed the entry of several sets of twins into the league, each contributing uniquely to the sport. Over the years, a total of five pairs of twins have been drafted into the NBA, each making their mark in the world of professional basketball.
FORT WORTH – TCU won the ultimate mid-season transfer portal prize, signing former Miami guard Haley Cavinder on Tuesday. Cavinder, a four-time all-conference point guard and among college sports' top social media influencers, will complete her fifth-and-final year of eligibility in 2024-25.
Since then, however, Bueckers has been plagued by injuries that have limited her to just 44 games. She underwent ankle surgery after her freshman season, suffered a tibial plateau fracture and torn meniscus early in her sophom*ore season and tore her ACL just ahead of her junior season.
Former Miami Hurricanes' guard Haley Cavinder announced on Monday her decision to transfer to TCU with the intention of playing another year of basketball.
Cavinder, 22, and her twin sister Hanna reportedly made over $2 million in NIL deals, so money doesn't seem to be Haley's reason to unretire from college basketball.
Haley was the more productive Cavinder sister with the Hurricanes, averaging 12.2 points and 4.9 rebounds per game in Coral Gables. Hanna only averaged 3.8 points per game and has ruled out a return to the court.
Haley Cavinder was arguably the more complete and consistent player of the two. She played as a point guard and was able to score from anywhere on the court, as well as create opportunities for her teammates.
The twins played three years at Fresno State together, then moved together to the University of Miami for the 2022-23 NCAA women's basketball season. Then in April, after helping the Hurricanes reach the NCAA Tournament Elite 8 for the first time in school history, they retired from the sport, together.
