Connor McDavid commits to CCM for four more years - SportsPro (2024)

National Hockey League (NHL) star Connor McDavid has extended his partnership with ice hockey equipment brand CCM.

The Edmonton Oilers captain, still only 21, will continue to exclusively use CCM equipment during games and practice sessions until the end of 2023.

The tie-up will see McDavid collaborate with CCM to design a range of equipment, while he will also participate in the company’s community-based initiatives, support product launches and act as a global ambassador for the brand.

McDavid, who has led the NHL in points for the past two seasons and was named league MVP in only his second season in 2017, first teamed up with CCM in 2015. The Canadian centre is part of a star-studded CCM roster which also includes Sidney Crosby, Alex Ovechkin and John Tavares.

“Since he first stepped onto the ice, Connor McDavid has had a huge impact on the game, and is a once-in-a-generation talent and role model,” said CCM Hockey chief executive Rick Blackshaw. “Connor is an inspiration on and off the ice, especially with his efforts to work with kids to create excitement for the game. It’s an honour to be a part of his journey and we look forward to continuing our partnership while providing him with the best equipment to compete at the highest level.”

McDavid, who ranked 18th in SportsPro’s 2018 list of the world’s 50 most marketable athletes, also has endorsem*nt deals with Adidas, CIBC, BioSteel and Canadian Tire. In 2017, he signed an eight-year, US$100 million contract extension with the Oilers to become the highest paid player in the NHL.

“After many years of collaboration on and off the ice, I couldn’t be happier to continue my relationship with CCM,” added McDavid. “The support and high-performance equipment that the brand has given me throughout my career has helped me succeed on the ice.”

McDavid’s Oilers are sixth in the NHL’s Pacific Division and face an uphill battle to reach the playoffs. They face the San Jose Sharks in their next game on Tuesday.
