It will now cost roughly $4000 to $5000 per year to play in the OJHL according to several sources involved. Sources are informing TJHN that there are some OJHL teams that do not want to charge a fee at all. None of those sources can confirm or deny whether teams will have an option to charge or not to charge.
The top teams of the NAHL playoffs meet in a predetermined location to play in the Robertson Cup Championship Tournament. Under USA Hockey Tier II sanctioning, NAHL teams do not charge players to play and also provide players with uniforms, team clothing and select equipment such as sticks, gloves and helmets.
The SIJHL along with a number of leagues within the Canadian Junior Hockey League operates under a player fee system. Once the regular season commences, any arriving or departing players are subject to a pro-rated per game payment system based on a 56-game playing schedule.
There are some Junior A leagues like the BCHL that pay no tuition fees and then there are other leagues such as the CCHL and OJHL that do charge players to play.
The OJHL is a league focused on helping develop players to get to the next level and succeed in hockey and in their life. The league helps send players to the NCAA, CIS, and OHL, and onto play pro hockey in the NHL and leagues all across North America and Europe.
Players in the Tier 1 USHL have no expenses. They don't pay tuition, and their housing is taken care of by the team as well. NAHL and NCDC players do not pay tuition, but usually pay $400 to $500 per month for housing – either in shared apartments or with billet families.
TJHN sources are reporting that most teams could cost in the area of $750 for each play this season. Other sources are reporting that fee's range from $750 to $2500 per team. The SIJHL has undergone its challenges in the last twenty-four months, but looks to be coming out of those challenges stronger as a unit.
Pres- ently fees vary between $4,500 and $8,000 per player. Tournament fees as well as playoff expenses may or may not be included in the registra- tion fee. It is the parent's responsibility to provide a billet for their son to play hockey.
