Are dentures uncomfortable?
It is normal to find dentures uncomfortable for a few weeks, until you get used to the way that they feel in your mouth. The dentures may press on your soft gum tissue, causing tenderness, or you may find that you accidentally bite your cheeks or tongue whilst chewing. Your dentist can adjust your dentures to make them more comfortable.
What is the average cost of dentures?
Dentures are highly personalised and this can affect their cost. On average, in Singapore you can expect to pay $800 – $1300 per arch, with the final cost determined by the type of dentures you require and the materials used to make them. In addition, you will need to make several visits to the dentist for routine checks prior to having the dentures fitted, as well as regular visits after you begin wearing them, so that your dentist can adjust and clean the dentures as required.
Are dentures permanent?
Even so-called permanent dentures do not last for longer than 7 to 10 years because facial bones shrink over time, creating a gap between the dentures and the jaw.
“Permanent dentures” refers to dentures which have been fixed into the mouth by means of implants. They are a practical solution for people who have lost all their teeth. They can look and feel more natural than removable dentures but are considerably more expensive and will still need to be replaced every few years due to wear and tear.

What are the different types of dentures?
All dentures are artificial replacements for teeth that are missing due to injury, decay, age or other factors. They are made from different types of material, the most common being plastic, acrylic, nylon, porcelain and cobalt-chrome. Dentures can be partial (for single or multiple missing teeth) or complete (a replacement for an entire jaw). These types of dentures rest on the gum and are designed to be removable.
Other types of dentures, such as implant-supported or permanent dentures, are fixed in place using implants. Some of these can still be removed and reinserted by the patient, using a connector system. Other types can only be unscrewed and removed by a dentist. Your dentist can advise which type of dentures will be best suited to you.
