Spring is in the air but should it be capitalised on the page? You may see the seasons frequently capitalised but when they are being used as common nouns, rather than proper nouns, the answer is no!Should I Capitalise the Seasons? (1)

Tulips bloom in spring. The sun is hot in summer. The leaves turn brown in autumn. And the air is cold in winter.

Seasons are only capitalised when they are being used as proper nouns.

Seasons become proper nouns when they are being personified (given a human trait).

I smiled as Spring whispered about the beauty yet to come.

They also become proper names when being used as part of an official name.

The Spring Bank Holiday is on the last Monday in May.
