What is the senior discount age for NJ TRANSIT? ›

If you're a senior citizen who is 62 years of age or older (65 years of age for travel to/from Metro-North stations) or a person with a disability, you're eligible to apply to NJ TRANSIT's Reduced Fare Program! As a member of our program, you can save 50 percent on a regular one-way ticket.

Fare Difference means the difference between the fare paid in first instance and the applicable fare on the moment of change of the Ticket or Booking, if the latter fare is higher.

Children's Fares

Children (ages 5-11) save 50 percent and up to three children (ages 4 and under) ride free with a passenger paying any valid fare.

How much is the senior discount for E-ZPass NJ? ENROLLED SENIOR DRIVERS SAVE 50%! The DRPA offers a discount to senior drivers, 65 years of age and older, who have an active NJ E-ZPass account.

2023, c. 256. For the purposes of this act, a "senior citizen" is any person who has attained the age of 62 years on or after the effective date of this act, or the spouse of that person, or the surviving spouse of that person, if the surviving spouse is 55 years of age or older.

Dial-A-Rides are municipally-sponsored local transportation for senior citizens. Some may be able to accommodate persons with disabilities.

Receiving Senior Discounts

Some businesses start offering discounts to customers when they reach age 55, but others have different qualifying ages such as 62 or 65. If you look for deals for seniors, you can find them at certain retailers, restaurants and grocery stores.

You get an older person's bus pass when you're 60.

As such, being a senior citizen may be based on your age, but it is not a specific age. In general, however, once you turn 55 you start to enter the senior age demographic. By the time you are 65 you reach the most common age for retirement from your job.

Normal Retirement Age shall mean age 65.

NJ Taxation

The Senior Freeze Program reimburses eligible senior citizens and disabled persons for property tax or mobile home park site fee increases on their principal residence (main home). To qualify, you must meet all the eligibility requirements for each year from the base year through the application year.
