For Remote I-9s
When section 2 or section 1 is not completed and it's a remote I-9, follow the below steps to update the start date on Form I-9:
Go to the Remote I-9 tab or the Employee Appoint I-9 tab of the Form I-9.
Go to the Section 2: Employer Review and Verification.
Once you have changed the date in the Start Date field, the Save/Validate button will appear. Click on "Save/Validate".
If a change in thestart date on arecord is done after Section 2 is completed, this will save the change and record it as an amendment to Section 2 of the Form I-9.

According to the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Service (USCIS), the best way to correct the Form I-9 is to line through the portions of the form that contain incorrect information, enter the correct information and initial and date your correction. The use of correction fluid (White Out) is not recommended.
The Form I-9 can be completed as soon as the job offer has been extended and accepted. Newly hired employees must complete and sign Section 1 of Form I-9 no later than their first day of employment. You may not use the Form I-9 process to screen job applicants or to delay the actual start day of work.
The employer should not backdate the Form I-9. An employer must give an employee the option to present acceptable documentation of the employee's choice to bring the Form I-9 into compliance with the INA.
